I’m choosing polymer science, which is (like most materials science) a blend of chemistry and physics with perhaps engineering (if you study for example mechanical properties or processing) or biology (the most common polymer is a biological product – cellulose). This answer will no doubt be used by my colleagues to prove that I’m polymer obsessed!
I’d say Chemistry and Biology – I really enjoy biology because of the rich insight it provides into how my body and the living world works. Chemistry has the added advantage of adding even richer insight into the biological world – since now it’s possibly to actually understand and modify biological systems from a chemical point of view. This is pretty much what my work is about at the moment, so quite happy with it.
Biochem is good fun too – I quite like the idea of growing yeast and bacteria to make useful materials/chemicals, which is what synthetic biology aims to do.
