I really hope that the field as a whole, regenerative medicine, is successful at helping cure and prevent diseases through the use of stem cells. It still has a long way to go before it could be widely available, lots more research has to happen, but its definitely making massive progress. There are more stem cell/ tissue engineering based products in clinical trials than before, so hopefully some will be successful and will have a real impact on peoples health!

      Hi!
As I am investigating the properties of the new polymers I make, it is difficult to know what applications they might go into. If a polymer forms films, it could go into paints, if it is adhesive it could go into glue. Some of the polymers I make can also be used as drug delivery system. I am hopeful that I will be able to improve the polymer properties for a wide range of applications 🙂

I hope that I will have provided some improved understanding as to why household/personal care products freeze in the cold weather, so we can begin to develop measures to prevent this. By doing so we can avoid customers being unhappy if their e.g. shampoo doesn’t work or look how they want it to 🙂

I study composites (polymers with carbon fibres) which can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions (by reducing the weight of aircraft and cars), make aircraft more comfortable and increase safety (formula 1 cars have become much safer since they started using carbon fibre composites).

I think I’d like my current research to help make more complex molecules (e.g antibiotics) via fairly “green” approaches i.e reactions at low temperature and using water as a solvent.

In terms of other future work I think it would be really cool to work on those kinds of technologies that are a bit disruptive – google Xlabs style!
