      Hi, There are many different ways to make a double bond and it depends on what your starting material is and what double bond you are wanting to make.

      If you have an alcohol you can do whats called a dehydration and this will give you a carbon-carbon double bond.
      You can also make double bonds between carbon and oxygen. This is called a carbonyl bond. You can make a carbonly from an alcohol too by doing an oxidation reaction.

      For alkene’s in particular you can start with an alkyne an use a catalyst so you have cis-/trans- directionality, eliminate an alkyl halide or alcohol, or dehydrogenate at high temperatures with a catalyst – but the last one normally causes a mixture of products
