Yes – or I wouldn’t be committed to doing a PhD in the field! As with all jobs it’s not always positive/fun, there are downs, but because I enjoy the work it’s possible to persevere through the harder times 🙂

I enjoy my job. Everyday is different and someting new and interesting tends to turn up (maybe not at the moment because I’m doing lots of end of administration – but once that’s over……).

I really enjoy research and doing a PhD was a good decision for me. I have been to a couple of conferences abroad whilst doing my PhD and that was really fun!

I really enjoy my job, I think you have to do a PhD, its a big commitment and lots of hard work. Like everything some days are better than others. I get to plan my own time, my own hours, its very independent which I love and few days are the same.

Hi Jack, yes indeed! I think it provides me with all the things I’d be looking for in a working environment – great group of people to work with, the ability to manage my own time and research, and having problems to solve. And it’s always-changing – from new techniques that I come up with to tackle something, or new ideas that I just decide to try out.

As the others have mentioned it does take commitment, and you’re in it for the long ru n – I think this is probably the longest thing I’ve stuck to consistently – most of my previous interests were on and off, and same with my research projects – nothing as long as this! Definitely a challenging experience in it’s own right, but then again if it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you 😉
