Never had anything blow up (yet!). But we do get some LOUD bangs when testing some of the carbon fibre composites that go into modern aircraft.

      Hello,
In my work if I’ve blown something up then something has gone very very wrong! I sometimes have to work with a solution called piranha solution, named as it will attack anything organic (like a person). So I have to be very careful when using it! It is also quite explosive if mixed with the wrong things, so I have to make sure there are no other solutions near to it.

Yep, I agree with Arthur and Anne. Blowing things up is usually VERY bad!! I have been in the lab when I liquid nitrogen dewar shattered and that made a very loud bang. It was pretty shocking but no-one was hurt.

Same as everyone else, not made anything blow up during my time as a scientist/(or in life generally!) and I hope it will stay this way! 🙂

In my current research I don’t have much opportunities to blow things up, and would most likely avoid doing so at the moment. However I did make some smoke grenades for science demonstrations when I was back in Malta, but nothing that made major booms.
