Agreeing with Arthur on this – I’m quite happy working with water based experiments – they’re less likely to impact on my health (and those of others) in the long term!
On a weekly basis the most dangerous thing I do is handle liquid nitrogen or very concentrated acids. In both cases I always glove up and put on full protective clothing!
As long as you’re careful and following the safety procedures then no experiment should be dangerous. Some chemicals are more reactive than others and this could mean they are sensitive to air or could form explosive products but if you are doing your work correctly then you won’t have any problems.
I agree with Rose – some experiments require more precautions or preventative measures than others, in which case you would look at alternative options first. If there are no alternatives it’s all about being careful, knowing what you are doing and staying calm.
